Iceland it is!
After a while of going pretty much nowhere, I’ve decided to head to Iceland. I thoroughly loved Norway, getting up into the arctic circle and seeing the barren landscapes and nature at it’s finest, and Iceland seemed to be a likely contender to have a similar experience. I am also perpetually looking for the opportunity to see the Aurora Borealis; Iceland in November seems as likely a place to see them as any..
Now, if you know me, then you know that I most enjoy travelling to places by road. This was to be the original idea for getting to Iceland, however, there is a minor issue, in so much as, there isn’t a road to get there !
It would take travelling to Denmark, either by ferry (if ever they run again from the UK), or by crossing the channel and driving to Denmark, and then a 3 day ferry journey from Hirtshals in the north of Denmark to Seydisfjordur in Iceland. Clearly this would require following the same route back; in total around 5 days each way….
The logistics of making this a road trip is clearly significant, the amount of time on ferries with a car to get there and back in itself would take a week and a half so, I have decided to take the ‘easier’ option this time and fly, stay in a hotel, and hire a car out there.
There are still plenty of miles to do when I’m there however, it’s going to be pretty much winter, and there’s a lot to see…
9 weeks and counting!
